MANILA, Philippines—Liberal Party standard-bearer Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has widened his lead over his closest rival, Senator Manuel Villar, by almost 11 percentage points, according to a survey conducted by an international market research firm.
The Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) survey, conducted from January 28 to February 3, showed that Aquino was the choice of 41.54 percent of the 3,000 respondents nationwide while Villar got only 30.63 percent, according to ABS-CBN News.
This meant that if the elections were held at that time, Aquino would have gotten 20.9 million votes while Villar would have received 15.4 million votes, based on the 50,380,085 registered voters as of January.

TARLAC- Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III vowed Tuesday to ensure the distribution of the 4,500-hectare plantation to farmer-beneficiaries by June 2014.
Aquino made the promise at a press conference in his family's ancestral home in Concepcion town, which he chose to be the venue of his electoral campaign's kick-off.
Aquino said he has already asked his extended family - relatives of his mother, the late former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino - to find ways to distribute the land to 10,000 farmer-beneficiaries before the end of the government's five-year agrarian reform program.
Aquino's spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Noynoy is committed to ensuring the distribution of Hacienda Luisita land even if he loses in the May elections.

MANILA, Philippines – Away from the eyes of the media, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III quietly dropped by the hospital room of a dying man to grant his wish to see him up close.
Surprising the cancer-stricken Danilo Alonso, Aquino with his cousin Rapa Lopa appeared at room 779 of the Makati Medical Center one Saturday afternoon without telling Alonso’s family that he was coming.
Bedridden for almost a week, Alonso was star-struck and even tried to sit up upon seeing Aquino.
His children and grandchildren cried upon seeing that "a very important person was in the room." Aquino and Lopa stayed for 30 minutes.
This was how Alonso’s granddaughter Joylyn recounted to the Philippine Daily Inquirer Aquino’s visit.
Alonso could no longer tell the story of how he met his "idol." He passed away at age 63 two days after the visit.
